Kenta Hoshihara added to the list of released players today as he became the fifth player to be cut from the squad ahead of the 2014 season. The 25 year old striker-turned-right back has ended his 13 year association with the club as his contract comes to a close.
Hoshihara was a product from our youth academy, first joining the club at the Junior Youth level. His first senior season was in 2007 but found no appearances in any competitions until 2010. He only played 9 games, scoring just one goal in that time, and was sent out on loan to Mito HollyHock mid-way through last season, where he secured 12 appearances in total, with just one goal. He came back this year to Gamba and converted to right-back but found his chances limited with Akira Kaji and Oh Jae-Suk ahead of him in the pecking order.
In total, Kenta appeared a meagre 15 times for Gamba in 6 and a half years with just the one goal. It is going to be a fresh start for him and he needs it. He has a bubbly character and will be remembered for me with his excellent comedy at the Gamba Freaks’ Meeting this year. 健太です！はいどうも！
Thank you for your hard work Kenta and good luck at your new club, wherever that may be.
